Hot Springs

One of the most enjoyable aspects of a visit to Yellowstone National Park is the viewing of hundreds of colorful hot springs.   The colors are a byproduct of the depth of the spring, the minerals in the water, and the heat loving organisms that live there.  Colors range from deep blue, turquoise, green, orange, and yellow to white.   Some springs bubble, some send steam into the air, and some smell of sulfur.  Each one is different and very artistic!  Here are my favorites.

Here is the mineral build up that created the terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs, the original entrance to the park.
