Letting Go

For those of you outside the US who may not be aware, last week we had a very devastating hurricane that did a lot of catastrophic damage to the southwest of the country, Florida in particular.  I have an aunt who is 93, and who lives on Sanibel Island, ground zero for the landfall of the hurricane.  Fortunately, she flew up to Maryland to stay with my cousin as a precaution well before the storm struck.   Good thing she did, as the island is pretty much ruined, and the causeway from Ft Meyers was breached in several spots.  Now the only way to get there is by boat or helicopter.  We do not yet know what damage was done to her house, but it is probable that she may not be able to live there at all in the near future.

On another note, I have friend who moved to this subdivision about a year ago from another state.  Three years prior to her move, her house burned down.  She spent the subsequent time replacing the things that were lost, and going on a buying spree.  She bought so much stuff that when she moved here, she couldn’t fit it into her house.  The garage is packed, and packages still arrive daily.  She claimed that she didn’t have time to sort and down size before moving, but I think that we have hoarding situation going on.  Many hoarders are addicted to shopping either at thrift stores or on the internet.  There are days that the packages are piled by the front door because there is no place to put them inside.

So let’s look at these situations energetically.  You can’t take it with you!  For spiritually evolving beings, you must be as free and light at the end of your physical existence as you can to be able to exit this 4 D reality.  This not only means possessions, but attachments of all kinds of people, places and situations.  If this is your path, sometimes the universe will engineer this letting go for you, such as in cases of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.  Or everything being washed away in a hurricane, as in my aunt’s case.  It remains to be seen whether she will move back to Sanibel Island to rebuild, but for the foreseeable future that seems to be an impossibility.

In my neighbor’s case, her opportunity came with the burning down of her house, but instead, she proceeded to recreate what she had and more!  She went out of town recently and asked if I would watch her house and feed her cats.  I had to turn her down because I couldn’t bring myself to enter the energy of her over packed house.  What do you think her energy field will look and feel like upon her passing?  I feel heavy even thinking about it.

The spiritual path involves living simply and walking lightly on the land.  Do not accumulate.  Leave no trace.  This is the Beauty Way that the Native Americans talk about.  If it is your destiny to live this way and you are not, the universe may just create a circumstance where all is taken away.
