Hierapolis

In the following posts I will be highlighting some of my favorite places from this trip to Turkey.  Luckily, there were several of those in spite of the trip being kind of a bust.  I do not wish to go into the ongoing drama around the financial misdeeds that occurred.  Those will be continued to be addressed for some time to come.  Instead, please enjoy my photos with a bit of commentary on the higher energy sites that we visited.

Hierapolis is an ancient Greco-Roman spa town.   It is situated on a plateau overlooking the town of Pamukkale.  For our group, the ruins were not the attraction.  We were more interested in experiencing the magic of the hot springs, which are laden with calcium and have created the pools, walls and terraces that you see here.  People still come here to wade in the healing waters.

Some of the ruins.

The hot springs.

Looking towards the valley below.
Ancient water channels that were used to distribute the mineral laden water to those below the hot springs.
