Scary Stairs

 

At least they are scary to me!  Back around 1980 when I visited Chichen Itza for the first time, visitors were allowed to climb all over all of the ruins.  One was even able to climb to the top of the El Castillo pyramid with the aid of ropes and chains.  That practice was stopped around 2008. I found this photo on the internet.

 Here is the current state of the very steep stairway.

The following photos are of some of the sites that had some very steep staircases.  Needless to say, I did not climb any of these!

Below is a diorama of the Ek Balam site.  If you look closely, you can see the massive staircase that goes right up through the middle.

I truly admire people who are comfortable with doing this sort of climbing!  My climbing days are long past.
