Summer Solstice

Do you have a strong relationship with the natural world?  Do you spend enough time outdoors engaging with the trees and flowers, the sun and the earth?  After all, we are children of nature, and the natural world holds the keys to our health and happiness.

The ancient peoples all had that connection.  Most if not all of the ancient sacred sites that I have visited over the years have alignments and markers for the solstices and equinoxes, as these were occasions for ceremony and celebration.  The photo above is of the Sumner Solstice sunset megalith at America’s Stonehenge in New Hampshire.

Friday night and into Saturday morning coming up is when the Summer Solstice will be happening here in the Northern hemisphere.   This occasion marks our longest day.  Any ceremony that you partake in should make use of the strong energy of the sun to ignite your purpose moving forward.  It is like lighting the fire of your desire.

I will be doing my usual bowl burning on Friday night, letting go of what no longer serves me and welcoming in the new and positive intent.  We are having an unusual situation here in Cedar City.  High winds are forecast for Friday and Saturday, and we will even be having a 12 hour electrical power shut off on Saturday to prevent any power grid mishaps or accidental fires.  My back yard is pretty sheltered, so I do not anticipate my bowl burning getting out of control.

I will be going out to the Parowan Gap to photograph the special sunset on Sunday night.  Luckily, the window for alignments for solstices is about 5 days, 2 or 3 on either side of the actual date.   You can do your ceremony on Saturday or Sunday night if you wish.  What a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural world and reconnect with the sun and the earth.  Make it magical!
